List Of Documents Required While Applying For Pan Card

Incepted in 1972, a Permanent Account Number of PAN is an alphanumeric identification number that is linked to an electronic system that records all tax-related information for a person or company in India. It is issued in the form of a laminated PAN card application form by the Income Tax Department of India to an Indian citizen, NRI, company, HUF, or anyone who pays taxes in the country. 

New PAN card application forms are available both online and offline. The cost of a new PAN card is anywhere between approximately Rs. 110 to Rs. 1,020 depending on the type of PAN applied for. The PAN card issued is valid for life, and one applicant can hold just one PAN card.

But why do you need a PAN Card?

If you are liable to pay taxes in the country of India, it is mandatory to have a PAN card, so your tax records are recorded in an electronic system. Besides this a PAN card is also used for:

  • Registration of Business
  • Financial transactions
  • Opening bank accounts
  • Utility connections like phone, gas, etc.
  • Mutual funds
  • KYCs

Documents Required when applying for a PAN card:

As per Rule 114 of the Income Tax Department, when filling a new PAN Card application form, two types of documents are to be submitted – Proof of Address and Proof of Identity (POI). The name mentioned in the application should be the same in the POA and POI documents.

These documents are:

Firms and Partnerships (LLP) Partnership Deed and Certificate of Registration by the Registrar of Firms/ Limited Liability Partnerships
Trust
Copy of Trust Deed or the Certificate of Registration Number

Society Registrar of Co-operative Society issued Certificate of Registration Number
Foreigners Passport, PIO/ OCI card issued by the Government of India, Bank statement of the residential country, Copy of NRE bank statement in India

Here are some points to remember when filling a PAN card application form:

  • Fill the form in capital letters
  • All fields should be filled completely
  • Enter your name clearly with signature when self-attesting documents
  • Attached the relevant documents
  • Mobile number is mandatory for all updates
  • You can fill the form in English and the local language
  • All details provided should be current and updated
  • Avoid salutations in the name like Dr., CA, Er., Mr., Mrs., Ms.
  • Fill full complete address

For tracking the PAN card application form status, applicants can use the 15 digits unique acknowledgement number after 3 days of application. You can track the status online, SMS, or calling the TIN (Tax Information Network) call centre.

Once you submit the new PAN card application form, your new PAN card will be dispatched within 15 days.
